The Teaching Kitchen at Community Servings is a free, 12 week job training course. You will learn everything you need to know to work in a professional kitchen including knife skills, recipe reading, use of commercial kitchen equipment, and all aspects of savory cooking techniques. Part of the course is a 120 hour internship in the Community Servings kitchen, helping to produce over 2,000 meals each day for neighbors living with critical illnesses. A job readiness course is also provided as part of the training, and ongoing job search and job retention support are provided for at least 1 year following graduation. The Teaching Kitchen is proud to have an 89% success rate of job placement for our graduates!

Service hours:

M - Th: 9am - 4pm, F: 7am - 2pm

Requirements / Restrictions:

Must be a citizen or be legally registered. Proficiency in English at 4th grade level (ABE) or better. CORI friendly; not SORI friendly.


The Teaching Kitchen class is free of charge to those who are accepted into the program. All course materials are provided, including chef coat, hat, textbooks, notebooks, pen.

Offers 4 12-week cycles yearly
